Hal Chappell, CIMA, Senior Partner, Alternative Strategies, LLC
Mr. Chappell has more than twenty-five years of experience in investment consulting and investment management.
He currently holds the title of Senior Partner with Alternative Strategies, LLC, a firm he formed in April of 2003 to
represent hedge fund of funds and long only investment managers. Before he formed Alternative Strategies, he was a
First Vice President with Legg Mason and the Director of their Investment Consulting Group.
Prior to his years at Legg Mason, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Performance Measurement Associates, Inc.,
a pension-consulting firm he founded in October 1989. The firm represented 40 Florida Firefighter's, Police Officer's and General
Employee's Pension Funds. Performance Measurement Associates was sold to the actuarial firm Gabriel, Roeder, Smith & Company of
Southfield, MI in 1999.
From 1983 to 1989, Mr. Chappell was employed by the Sarasota office of Kidder, Peabody & Co., Inc. in their PRIME Pension Consulting
Group. Before that, he was with E. F. Hutton in Sarasota for three years in their Pension Consulting Services Group, and with a
paper company for fifteen years in various sales and sales management functions.
Hal is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Siesta Key Association and is past President of the Heron Lagoon
Association. He is recognized as a founding member of the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) and has
been a member of the Florida Public Pension Trustees Association since 1985.
Mr. Chappell attended the University of South Carolina from 1964 to 1968, where he majored in Finance and Management.
He and his wife, Sharon, have been married for more than twenty-five years and live in Crownsville, Maryland with
their son, Christopher.
